iTunesU is an appropriate delive iTunesU is an appropriate delivery mechanism for portable audio/video players like the iPod or a computer, or other mobile devices. In order to participate in ITunes U, it is required that you comply to Montclair State University's policies listed below. At the end of this policy document, please select "Yes" if you comply with these policies. Please consult with your local technology support office or the Office of Information Technology for alternatives.

The iTunes U participant has read the following policies and agree to comply with all of the elements in order to actively participate in iTunes University at Montclair State University:

  1. Comply with Apple's "Terms of Service".

  2. File size limited to 150MB.
    For files larger than 150 MB please consult with your local technology support office or the Office of Information Technology.
     
  3. Proper file formats: As you consider which formats and file sizes to produce, keep in mind that your users will need to download the content from your site and that their bandwidth may vary. In addition, for pedagogical purposes, the length of the podcast should be a short as possible.

    Audio Files:
    Audio Format: AAC-LC (Music) with appropriate file extensions (.m4a, .mp3)
    Data rate: 128 Kbps
    Channels: Stereo
    Output sample rate: 44.100 kHz
    Encoding quality: Better

    Video Files

    Video format: MPEG-4 with H.264 with appropriate file extensions (.mp4, .m4v, .mov)
    Data rate: 256 Kbps
    Image size: 320 by 240
    Frame rate: 30
    Key frame: Every 24 frames

     
  4. Portable Document Format (PDF) limited to 150MB. For files larger than 150 MB please consult with your local technology support office or the Office of Information Technology.
     
  5. Maximum data rate for computers, iPods is 384 Kbps and 96 Kbps for cell phones.
     
  6. Any files that do not conform to the following standards are subject to the review of the MSU iTunes Committee and could be removed.
     
  7. I agree to copyright policies as instituted by the University and the use of appropriate citations.
